This battle took place after the Allies had captured the beaches of Normandy and begun their advance through Western Europe.

The Battle of the Scheldt was crucial because the port of Antwerp was an important logistical hub for the allied troops. The Allies had to liberate the Scheldt River and the surrounding areas in order to use the port and thus provide their troops with supplies.

This battle is decisive for the course of the Second World War and is known as one of the most important and fiercest battles in Western Europe.
